One Woman, So Many Concerns

Like many others, myEARTH360.com founder Lynn Hasselberger often felt overwhelmed by alarming reports of toxins found in everyday items, from bottled water to canned food to the candles we use to relax and much more. How could she keep her family -- son Ethan and husband Craig -- safe? And what could she do about the impact of these pollutants on the planet? The image of a helpless polar bear, adrift on a melting ice cap, became a symbol for the powerlessness she -- and many like her -- felt in the face of the earth's deepening dilemma. But it was the new beginnings of first grade that inspired Lynn to finally do something about it.

Cultivating a Young Eco Advocate

For Lynn and her son Ethan, first grade will always be tied to her family's foray into environmental advocacy. As her family entered their first busy school year ever in 2006, Lynn was shocked by the over consumption she saw all around her. Cases of bottled water in parents' trunks; refrigerators packed with plastic-bottled Gatorade. And the school requisite that kids bring a bottle of water to school, every day. Lynn recalled a scary fact: we toss enough water bottles out in the U.S. to circle the equator every 2.9 days. And, of course, now there's even more information about bottled water issues. With the waste she was seeing at school and during extracurricular activities, Lynn realized she was living at the epicenter of the problem. When son Ethan bristled at the reusable water bottle Lynn sent him to school with everyday, Lynn explained about environmental impact and cost, which at first, fell on deaf ears. Slowly but surely, a young advocate was born. In time, Ethan was berating dad for an old water bottle found in his car and reminding family members to turn off the lights and walk instead of ride to the neighborhood store.

EarthMenders to the Rescue!
Activating Kids to Count for the Earth

Fueled by her eco-passion, Lynn invested in custom-designed reusable water bottles that displayed her engaging new mantra: I Count for My Earth. Each bottle inspired kids with a symbol of the environmental crisis - the polar bear - in addition to other wildlife images. To strengthen her school water bottle campaign, Lynn developed I Count for myEARTH, a fun, interactive school program that promotes a green, eco-conscious lifestyle. The dual effort was a hit: kids actively engaged in the spirited I Count for myEARTH program which is presented by kids, for kids, and became loyal devotees of reusable water bottles. Shortly after the school campaign launched in January, 2008, Lynn launched myEarth360.com featuring the bottles.

The website has grown immensely to include eco-practical products from reusable shopping bags, biodegradable cleaning products and organic bedding to eco-chic products including clothing, accessories and home decor! Lynn is also an independent distributor for Shaklee, which offers green cleaning and laundry products, natural supplements and even skin care that she uses herself.

The Mission

Lynn's mission is to raise environmental awareness and help families transition to an earth-friendlier lifestyle. On her blog, and throughout the site, Lynn offers a unique mix of eco aspirations and day-to-day achievability. You'll find her on twitter (a bit too often) and facebook, where she's expanded her reach into the thousands, hoping to inspire even more people to live consciously.
